 Stella Kaltsou

Lighting Designer 

One of the most established and well-known lighting designers in Greece. She was born in Thessaloniki. She studied lighting design, set design and theory of drama in the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University. 

She has signed the lighting design for numerous productions of theatre, opera, dance, events and concerts in Europe and Asia. She gained the Best Lighting Design Award of 2019 at the Event Awards and she was nominated for the Best Stage Lighting Design of  2017 and 2020 at the Greek Theatre Awards. 

She has designed the lighting for productions at the Hong Kong Opera, Goethe’s Theatre in Germany, Opera Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Greek National Opera, Opera of Oviedo in Spain, Opera Miejski in Poland, Athens Concert Hall, Uskudar Theatre in Instanbul, Greek National Theatre, Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, Olympic Stadium Athens, Onassis Cultural Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Ancient Theatre of Herodes Atticus, Art Theatre of Greece, Athens Festival and many others. 

She has collaborated with directors such as Arnaud Bernard (Boheme, I Capuletti e I Montecchi, Renato Zanella (Vespri Siciliani, Swan Lake), George Petrou (Alcina, Sweeney Tod), Ester Ambrosino (The fire bird), Daniel Pfluger (Il Pastor Fido), Yannis Kakleas (Moby Dick, Shakespeare in love, Chicago), Themelis Glynatsis (Transfigured night, Berenice), Marianna Calbari (Medea, Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria) and others. 

She also worked for cinema as art director for three feature films with most recent the awarded “Invisible” by Dimitri Athanitis which gained 15 awards in International Festivals all over the world. She has participated in several film festivals such as Los Angeles Film Festival, San Francisco Greek Film Festival, Cairo IFF, London IFF, Seville IFF. 

She was invited to Tehran, Iran from Fajr IFF 2018, to give a masterclass on the subject “Designing the light and the space for a film”. 

She is also a member of the Hellenic Film Academy.

Στέλλα Κάλτσου

Από τις πιο γνωστές και καταξιωμένες σχεδιάστριες φωτισμών στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Έχει υπογράψει τους φωτισμούς σε μεγάλο αριθμό παραστάσεων θεάτρου, χορού και συναυλίες και σε διεθνείς παραγωγές όπερας στην Κίνα και την Ευρώπη.

Γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Σπούδασε θεατρικό φωτισμό, σκηνογραφία και θεωρία θεάτρου στο τμήμα Θεάτρου της Καλών Τεχνών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου, απ' όπου αποφοίτησε το 2009 και στη συνέχεια από το 2011 έως το 2013 εργάστηκε δίπλα στον Γιώργο Τέλλο ως βοηθός σχεδιαστή φωτισμών. Είναι συνεργάτης της Lighting Art και μέλος της Ελληνικής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου.

Έχει σχεδιάσει τους φωτισμούς σε μεγάλο αριθμό θεατρικών παραστάσεων στο Εθνικό Θέατρο, στο Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών και Επιδαύρου,το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος, στο θέατρο Ουσκουντάρ της Κωνσταντινούπολης, το Θέατρο Τέχνης, το Ίδρυμα Μιχάλη Κακογιάννη, το Θέατρο της Οδού Κυκλάδων, το θέατρο Ακροπόλ κ.α.

Επίσης, έχει αναλάβει το σχεδιασμό φωτισμών για όπερες, παραστάσεις χορού και συναυλίες στην Όπερα του Χονγκ Κονγκ, στο Φεστιβάλ Χαίντελ στο Χάλλε της Γερμανίας, στην Όπερα του Οβιέδο της Ισπανίας, στην Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή,το Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών, τη Στέγη Γραμμάτων και Τεχνών,το Μέγαρο Μουσικής Θεσσαλονίκης, το Ωδείο Ηρώδου Αττικού, το Φεστιβάλ Αιγαίου Σύρου. 

Στο ενεργητικό της έχει συνεργασίες με κορυφαίους σκηνοθέτες όπως οι Arnaud Bernard, Renato Zanella, Γιάννης Χουβαρδάς, Νίκος Μαστοράκης, Μαριάννα Κάλμπαρη, Κωνσταντίνος Ρήγος, Peter Tiboris, Άντζελα Μπρούσκου, Βασίλης Μαυρογεωργίου, Θέμελης Γλυνάτσης, Αγγέλα Σαρόγλου κ.α.

Στον κινηματογράφο έχει υπογράψει το art direction σε τρεις μεγάλου μήκους ταινίες με πιο πρόσφατη την πολυβραβευμένη ταινία Invisible του Δημήτρη Αθανίτη.
